Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce
The Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce is primarily concerned with helping local businesses thrive by providing a fourm to discuss and develop local business issues and initatives. Our goal is for our island community to have a strong, sustainable and resiliant economy.
We have regular monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month. The location and times vary to keep attendance interesting and accessible at some point in the year by as many members as possible. The time, date and location of each meeting is broadcast to the membership by email along with an agenda in advance of the meeting. Executive meetings are held as required.
One of our areas of focus, in supporting the Discovery islands business community, is through a co-operative tourism marketing program developed by DestinationBC the Community Tourism Opportunities program. Both Quadra and Cortes islands have active tourism groups who work as standing committees of the chamber.
As part of a strong and vibrant community the Chamber actively supports local cultural events, recreation and education. The Chamber is involved with a variety of successful events and festivals and continues to encourage and/or sponsor activities with a positive economic and community effect.
Our showcase community event is the annual Canada Day celebration every July 1st at Rebecca Spit. A lively evening of performaces, cake tasting and judging is capped off with a beachside firework display.
Canada Day: A subcommittee organized Quadra Island's annual community celebration at. The event was again a great success.
