| A copy of the Guide to the Discovery Islands is provided for you to download to your own computer in pdf format. PDF stands for "portable document format." As the name suggests these type of files are viewable (& printable) on a wide variety of computer platforms like Windows, Macintosh and Unix systems. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader software to open the files which can be downloaded from Adobe Systems. You only need to install this software once to view all pdf files. It'll be worth it because we are all going to see more and more of pdfs especially on the net.
We suggest if you are new to pdfs then first to see if the Acrobat Reader software is already installed on your computer (some software packages may install it by default) if not then download Acrobat Reader, from Adobe Systems. After downloading and installing Acrobat Reader then download our test file. The test file is a small & quick download & you can use it to make sure everything works fine with your new software before taking the trouble to download the larger file. If you need to know more read the documentation on Adobe's web site and that bundled with the software.
Pdf files can be viewed on screen with Acrobat Reader and also inside your Internet browser if the pdf plugin is installed in your browser plugins folder/directory on your hard drive. For best results however these files should be printed on a laser printer. To save file size and thus download time our files are prepared at screen resolution but should still print adequately.
