The Discovery Islands
The Discovery Islands are a rugged group of islands jammed between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia on the west coast of Canada. They are easily reached from the town of Campbell River on Vancouver Island by a regular 10 minute ferry crossing to Quadra Island the most populated and hub of the Discovery Islands. From Heriot Bay a second, 40 minute, ferry service makes the connection to Cortes Island.
The moment you step onto the ferry at Campbell River to make the short crossing to Quadra Island the pace relaxes and the smiles become wider. Why? It's not something easily explained, but if you are planning to visit or coming to live on the Discovery Islands, then you'll find out too!!
We hope this web site will help you find what you need for your stay on the islands or at least point you in the right direction. And if you live here? Well, hopefully it will make that smile a little wider and add a touch of pride!
Surrounded by snowcapped mountains and turbulent tidal water on all sides, the setting is one of the most scenic in coastal British Columbia. The local community, characterized by warmth & friendship, is rich in First Nations culture and steeped in pioneer lore. The sheltered waters and rolling hills found throughout the islands provide boundless recreation opportunities and the Discovery Islands are quickly becoming one of the most favoured tourist destinations in BC and a highly prized place to live.
